Prefinished hardwood flooring is a mechanically stained and finished product. On site staining will vary in colour due to the species and grade difference of wood.

Torcan stains have been matched to the most recent samples provided by most of the hardwood flooring industry. Although, we match a board sample as closely possible as we can, the consumer should be aware that different boards will highlight different shades and colours. Wood is a natural material containing distinctive differences in colour and grain configuration. It is these natural differences caused by nature that create the warmth, beauty and individuality of each board.

Exotic Hardwood Flooring species (e.g. Brazilian Cherry, Jatoba, Walnut, Tamarindo, Kempas, Merbau, Purple Heart, Black Cherry, etc...) will DARKEN as they age. These specialty woods also have differences in colour as well as grain configurations. Samples should be made before staining to ensure proper technique of application. Torcan will not be held responsible for differences of stain colour between species of floor and species of stairs.

Torcan Coatings strongly advises that the consumer take special care and attention when applying stain. The application and wiping will also decide on the shading and colour variations of the wood. take special attention when applying stain on staircases, handrails, banisters and pickets. The usually come in different grades and a variety of woods. this will cause either more or less absorption into the wood giving a different colour or even possible blotchiness. Humidity is also a PROBLEM. With this Canadian climate constantly changing, wood pores open up allowing the stain to penetrate deeper than normal which in turn creates a deeper and darker shade of colour. Wood as mentioned above is a natural material, it adjusts to the climate just like we do.

Please make it a practice that a small sample is made on the surface to which the stain is to be applied before commencing. Ensure that colour, share and grain is within reasonable tone before proceeding. If you are not content with the colour match Torcan Coatings will be more than happy to assist you.
